Pop Up Zendo is a volunteer-run Zen Buddhist community dedicated to supporting sincere practice in everyday life. Our sangha includes practitioners from across the country, with many long-time members originally connected through our California-based practice periods and online offerings.
At the heart of Pop Up Zendo is a simple mission: to carry Zen practice beyond the monastery and into the everyday. We create welcoming spaces—both online and in person—where people can sit together, breathe together, and fold practice into the real texture of their lives. Our intention is to offer a place where stillness and insight can meet ordinary moments, where community forms naturally, and where the teachings take shape in the rhythms of work, home, and relationship.
We now maintain a small, dedicated zendo space in Austin, Texas. This practice room serves as our home base for in-person meditation groups, while we continue to offer online programming that allows our broader community to practice together from anywhere.
Pop Up Zendo hosts:
Weekly zazen
Seasonal practice periods (angos)
Hybrid and online sittings
Small retreats, study groups, and gatherings
Our approach is simple: create a steady, open environment where people can deepen their practice without barriers. The zendo is supported entirely through donations, and all contributions go directly to maintaining and improving the practice space so it can remain open to all.
Whether you join us in person in Austin or online from afar, you are part of this community. We’re grateful you’re here.
